Many family physicians express interest in collaborating with a pharmacist within a clinic setting to address medication adherence/accessibility, quality metrics and preventive care. The lack of CMS recognition of pharmacists as provider eligible for independent billing makes the justification of hiring a full-time employee more difficult to conceptualize. However, there are multiple evidence-based published and real-world models demonstrated models that demonstrated both hard and soft dollar sustainability of clinical pharmacy services.
