Inequities in healthcare result in suboptimal care, which not only worsens the disease burden and healthcare outcomes but also results in the expenditure of hundreds of billions of dollars on avoidable costs. Given these challenges, society expects the healthcare team to evolve to improve outcomes, efficiencies, and decrease costs.
Pharmacy services have evolved from solely dispensing medications to a more person-centered care model by combining clinical practice and consideration for patients personal experiences, goals, beliefs, culture, and preferences. Not all scopes of practice rules or payment models have reflected these updates and may need reform. One recent legislative model from Tennesee is Public Chapter 859, which expanded access to pharmacist-provided services in Tennessee. The purpose of this knowledge based program is to To review the potential impact of expanded access to pharmacist-provided services in Tennessee.
