University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

Experiential education accounts for up to 1/3 of pharmacy education and offers tremendous benefits of hands-on learning in preparation for pharmacy practice.  Across the profession, literature has highlighted preceptors for putting a great deal of efforts into creating meaningful and positive learning experiences for students. However, preceptors often experience several challenges when evaluating students. With ACPE Standards 2025 being adopted across all colleges and schools of pharmacy, the UTHSC College of Pharmacy has updated their APPE evaluations tools to reflect changes to the standards. To support preceptors, UTHSC College of Pharmacy Office of Experiential Learning has developed supporting tasks to further define what students should be competent to performing on an APPE rotation and revised our approach to evaluating students.  The goal of this knowledge-based activity is to review the newly released APPE student evaluations, as well as discuss the role of entrustable professional activities in student evaluations.

Objectives

  • Describe the role of EPAs and supporting takes for student pharmacist evaluation.
  • List the components of the APPE evaluation to contribute to a student's final grade.
