Artificial intelligence (AI) is being increasingly utilized within the healthcare and education arenas, including healthcare and pharmacy experiential education. AI technology may provide opportunities to enhance patient care and learning; however, there is variability among preceptors in understanding of available frameworks for incorporating AI into teaching/training as well as potential concern regarding environmental and workforce impacts. Various organizations emphasize the need to prepare educators to responsibly guide learners in the use of AI, and recent additions to the pharmacy literature highlights the growing relevance of AI in pharmacy practice. The purpose of this activity is to facilitate discussion of various aspects of AI use with pharmacy preceptors with a focus on existing frameworks in the educational/training setting, potential effects on skills, ways to engage AI to complete cognitive tasks, potential future impacts on the healthcare workforce and environmental impact. Some preceptors may be unfamiliar with these concepts around the use of AI in education thereby missing potential opportunities to enhance learning.
