Preceptor Development- A focus on community-based IPPEs and APPEs

Experiential education accounts for up to 1/3 of pharmacy education and offers tremendous benefits of hands-on learning in prepreation for clinical practice. Preceptors serve a crucial role in educatining and evaluating students, but often face challenges related to time constrains and being pulled in multiple directions. Given their patient care or administrative responsibilities, preceptors often note challenges in balancing these responsibilities and teaching.  Particularly in communinty pharmacy settings where appointment based models are rare and on-demand clinical services are the norm, preceptors will face challenges with finding uninterupted time to spend with learners.  However, this does not mean students can't have an outstanding learning experience. During this preceptor development webcast, we will discuss best practices in experiental education including conducting orientations, incorporating students into clincial services workflows, and tips on teaching, assessing, evaluating students on the fly. The purpose of this knowledge based activity is to discuss stratagies for creating outstandling experiential education opportunites for incredibly busy preceptors.
