Some practicing pharmacists are interested in learning more about law, ethics, professionalism, professional boundaries, and their relationship to real-world behaviors categorized as professional misconduct. This need may arise after an allegation of professional misconduct, or some other inappropriate action has occurred, which results in the need for additional, focused education. The Alden March Bioethics Institute at Albany Medical College, in cooperation with the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, is pleased to offer this Web-based, 25-hour credit pharmacy continuing education series, designed especially for distance learning to meet and exceed any required State Board of Pharmacy course covering pharmacy law, ethics, professionalism, boundaries, and remediation topics

Objectives

  • Demonstrate knowledge of prevailing standards of professionalism arising from professional organizations, codes of conduct, pertinent selected statute and regulations and pharmacy ethics
  • Identify some of the major failures of pharmacists to act as professionals or good practitioners toward patients, colleagues staff, and to fulfill obligations in the community
  • Exercise sound reasoning skills and judgement in reaching viable solutions to cases of potential violations of pharmacy professionalism.
  • Engage in reflective writing about any professional infraction.
  • Participate openly and respectfully in discussions with peers and mentors about professional infractions.
  • Give and receive feedback thoughtfully and constructively when interacting with mentors and peers.
  • If advisable, formulate a precise, personal plan for renewed commitment to professional values, norms and service, pharmacy standards and ethics and professionalism.
